The 11th annual ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic, a Team ESPN event held Tuesday at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in Industry Hills, Calif., combined with ESPN Radio's sixth annual "Don't Give Up ESPYs V Foundation Auction," which concluded Friday, raised $1.5 million in net proceeds for The V Foundation for Cancer Research. The total was announced by George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN and ABC Sports, and Co-Chairman, Disney Media Networks.

"Jim Valvano's speech was where it all began," Bodenheimer said. "The commitment of sponsors, celebrities and volunteers to raise money for cancer research is absolutely inspiring."

The 11 th annual ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic raised $1.05 million in net proceeds for The V Foundation for Cancer Research, it was announced by George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN and ABC Sports, and Co-Chairman, Disney Media Networks. Celebrities from the worlds of sports and entertainment gathered for the Team ESPN event, held Tuesday at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in Industry Hills, Calif.

"This is one of the most uplifting days of the year for many of us," Bodenheimer said. "ESPN and The V Foundation are extremely focused on beating cancer and it's inspiring to have the support of so many celebrities, volunteers and sponsors."

Nick Valvano, V Foundation CEO and brother of Jim Valvano, added, "The ESPN family has once again mobilized their resources to make a major impact in our fight against cancer, with the growing team of celebrities, sponsors and countless ESPN staffers. Don't Give Up ESPYs V Foundation Auction
The seventh annual "Don't Give Up ESPYs V Foundation Auction" - an 11-day online and on-air public auction to raise money and awareness for The V Foundation for Cancer Research - concludes Wednesday. The 18-hour radiothon across ESPN Radio's six national shows on Wednesday, July 13, will begin at 6 a.m. ET and feature one "experience" auctioned each hour.

ESPYs
The V Foundation events coincide with the 2011 ESPYs July 13, live on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET. The 19th annual industry-wide sports celebration gathers top celebrities from sports and entertainment to commemorate the past year in sports by recognizing major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments and saluting the leading performers and performances. Jim Valvano's famous speech was delivered at the inaugural ESPYs in 1993.
